Magnesium sulfate is a commonly used medication, primarily composed of magnesium ions and sulfate ions. It can be used to treat constipation, abnormal intestinal fermentation, and in combination with anthelmintics. It can also be used with other medications, such as activated charcoal, to treat food or drug poisoning. Furthermore, it is suitable for treating obstructive jaundice and chronic cholecystitis. It can also be helpful for people with seizures, eclampsia, uremia, tetanus, hypertensive encephalopathy, or acute renal hypertensive crisis. In some cases, it can also be used to relieve angina symptoms, especially in patients with frequent angina attacks that are unresponsive to other treatments, particularly when combined with hypertension. Additionally, external heat application can help reduce inflammation and swelling.
The dosage and administration of magnesium sulfate are as follows: For laxative purposes, take 5-20 grams orally each time, usually on an empty stomach in the morning, and drink 100-400 ml of water or dissolve it in water before taking. For choleretic purposes, take 2-5 grams each time, three times a day, before meals or between meals. Alternatively, a 33% magnesium sulfate solution can be taken, 10 ml each time. For anticonvulsant and blood pressure-lowering purposes, a 25% magnesium sulfate solution is administered intramuscularly, 4-10 ml per dose; it can also be administered intravenously by mixing a 25% magnesium sulfate solution with an appropriate amount of 5%-10% glucose injection to prepare a 1% or 5% concentration before infusion. Please strictly follow your doctor's instructions for medication.
The use of magnesium sulfate may cause some side effects. For example, when used as a laxative, excessively high concentrations may cause dehydration. Additionally, for individuals with gastrointestinal damage (such as ulcers), high intake of magnesium ions may cause toxic symptoms. If you experience any of the above or other unmentioned symptoms while using the product, please stop using it immediately and seek help from a professional healthcare provider.
